Sulfur & air preparation
Condition sulfur feed and supply dry process air suitable for stable combustion and downstream conversion.
ACID PLANTS · SULFUR BURNING
A complete contact-process system that connects sulfur handling, gas conversion, acid circulation and heat recovery into one operable plant.

PROCESS CONTEXT
Sulfur-burning sulfuric acid production follows a well-established contact-process route: sulfur is burned to form SO2, the gas is catalytically converted to SO3, and SO3 is absorbed into circulating sulfuric acid.
The chemistry is only the starting point. Plant performance depends on how the reaction heat, gas pressure drop, catalyst arrangement, acid circulation, materials and utility interfaces are resolved as one system. TMCE organizes these decisions around the client’s feed basis, product slate, site utilities, environmental requirements and operating philosophy.
HOW IT WORKS
The sequence is stable, but equipment configuration and heat integration must be developed for the project basis.
Condition sulfur feed and supply dry process air suitable for stable combustion and downstream conversion.
Burn sulfur under controlled conditions and manage the furnace-to-boiler thermal transition.
Cool hot process gas while recovering useful energy into the selected steam system.
Convert SO2 to SO3 across catalyst stages with intermediate temperature control.
Absorb SO3 into circulating acid, control concentration and manage final gas/mist performance.
DESIGN PRIORITIES
Each priority crosses process, mechanical, materials, controls and operating disciplines.
Match waste-heat recovery, steam pressure levels and export or internal demand to the site-wide utility strategy.
Develop bed arrangement, catalyst selection and inter-stage cooling around feed, load range and environmental basis.
Coordinate equipment, ducting and heat-exchanger layout to control blower demand and preserve operating flexibility.
Align concentration, temperature, circulation, corrosion allowance and material selection with the operating envelope.
TYPICAL SYSTEM SCOPE
TMCE’s public process framework groups repeatable engineering knowledge into modules while preserving project-specific integration.
